Daunte Culpepper was one of the more dynamic playmakers of recent Minnesota Vikings history, and was one of the league's brightest stars for a short period. As has been the case through most of our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament, however, our readers chose long-term, sustained excellence over a player that shone brightly. . .and burned out just as fast.
Hall of Fame offensive tackle Ron Yary easily defeated Culpepper to move on to the second round of our tournament. When everything was totaled up, Yary had put together 133 "recs" from our readers, while Culpepper came away with 25 "recs." As we've said before, it's hard to argue with Hall of Fame credentials, and Daunte just wasn't up to the task in this one.
The next round will give us a battle of legendary Minnesota Vikings' offensive lineman, as Yary will take on another Hall of Famer, Randall McDaniel, in the second round.
Thanks to everyone that's participated in the voting for our tournament thus far!
