Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament: Cris Carter Advances

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It was one of the closest and most hotly contested battles we've had yet in our Greatest Viking Of All Time Tournament. But, when the dust settled and the smoke cleared in this battle of former Buckeyes, the man that most recently entered the Hall of Fame wearing purple and gold was able to get by the man that probably should have been there a long time ago.

Cris Carter advanced past Jim Marshall to claim the second spot in the Final Four of our tournament. In the final tally of votes, Carter managed to come out with 136 "recs," while Marshall wound up with 125 "recs." Nobody can deny that Jim Marshall is one of the greatest Minnesota Vikings of all time, but Carter in on the short list of greatest wide receivers in NFL history, largely because of what he did in Minnesota. There really was no wrong answer in this match-up, to be honest.

Carter will take on the winner of today's match-up between quarterback Fran Tarkenton and defensive tackle Alan Page in next week's Final Four.

Two of our Elite 8 match-ups are in the books, and two #1 seeds have found their way to the Final Four. Will this trend continue? There's only one way to find out. . .to keep an eye out for our results and keep voting for your favorites!
