Minnesota Vikings News and Links, 1/17

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

We've made it to the end of a pretty big week, ladies and gentlemen. The Minnesota Vikings have a new head coach, new coordinators, and it's all been pretty exciting, if I may say so.

Since the last time we brought you an Open Thread. . .

-Norv Turner, a man who will spend his 30th consecutive year on an NFL sideline, will be spending that 30th year running the Vikings' offense.

-There's a fresh face to run things on the defensive side of the ball as well, as Miami Dolphins' linebacker coach George Edwards is the team's choice for defensive coordinator.

-The latest episode of Norse Code is all about Mike Zimmer, and it's a pretty good one.

-The hiring of Mike Zimmer could be the start of something big for our favorite football team.

From some other sites around the internet. . .

-An offense run by Norv Turner could bring a significant increase in the number of deep passes, according to Ben Goessling of ESPN.

-The stadium authority is asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to shut down serial litigant Doug Mann so that things can proceed the way they should.

The official press conference to announce Mike Zimmer as the new Vikings' head coach will take place at 11 AM Central time. It's going to be streamed on Vikings.com, and not only that, but our man Arif Hasan is going to be in attendance at the presser as well. Will he get to ask the new coach a question? There's only one way to find out!

In keeping with that, here is Arif's Twitter feed. . .if I didn't mention it, he's going to be live at Mike Zimmer's press conference this morning.

Do we have music for today? Of course we do!

Why? Heck, why not?

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open for this Friday, everyone! The Mike Zimmer press conference will be in a couple of hours, and if anything else happens over the course of the day, we'll have it here for you.
