Minnesota Vikings News and Links, 10/23

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Week 8 of NFL action officially gets underway this evening in the Mile High City with what should be a good game, as the Denver Broncos will play host to their AFC West rivals, the San Diego Chargers.

Since the last time we brought you an Open Thread. . .

-Marshall Faulk asked us what needs to change for the Minnesota Vikings in order for them to compete for a playoff berth, and we answered.

-Our friends from Bucs Nation have noted that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are pretty bad against rookie quarterbacks. That's a good thing.

-According to the rankings from Pro Football Focus, Vikings first-round picks Anthony Barr and Teddy Bridgewater are at opposite ends of the spectrum of how first-rounders have performed this year.

-Di has opened up the DN Mailbag once again to answer some questions from our readers.

-CCNorseman has his weekly look at some of the matchups in this weekend's game with Tampa Bay.

-And a motion to remove the judge in the Adrian Peterson trial has been denied, meaning he should still be on track for a 1 December trial date.

From some other sources around the internet. . .

-Vikings center John Sullivan has passed the initial part of his concussion tests, but has not been fully cleared yet.

-Offensive tackle Mike Harris is continuing to practice at guard in the event that Vladimir Ducasse is unable to play on Sunday.

-The Vikings had their fourth annual "Celebrity Waiter Night" at Manny's Steakhouse on Monday, raising nearly $170,000 for Greenway's Lead the Way Foundation. That's a whole lotta steak. (There was an auction as well.)

The rules of the Open Thread are the same as they've ever been, ladies and gentlemen. . .no politics, no religion, no feeding of the trolls, keep the bad language to a minimum (using spoiler tags, if necessary), and keep the GIFs relatively work-safe.

Your entertainment for today. . .let's go with a classic.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open for this Thursday, ladies and gentlemen. Enjoy the rest of your day!
