Adrian Peterson Could End Up In Jail Anyway

Scott Halleran

As we talked about yesterday, the date for Adrian Peterson's trial on charges of causing injury to a child is currently scheduled for 1 December. He is out on a bond that he posted until then.

For now.

It turns out that, according to TMZ. . .and, seriously, the folks at TMZ do good work, but I'm as sick of getting sports news from TMZ as you are. . .Peterson admitted to "smoking a little weed" while giving a urine sample for a court-mandated drug test.

Let me repeat that. He was giving a urine sample for a drug test while admitting to using drugs.

I want to make myself perfectly clear. . .I'm not going to go off on an ADRIAN PETERSON SMOKED WEED AND WEED BAD AND ADRIAN PETERSON BAD sort of rant. Because, really, that's not the issue here. The issue here is the fact that he thought it would be a good idea to do this knowing that it would be a direct violation of his bond if he did (and if he didn't know, well, that's nobody's fault but his).

Now, prosecutors in Montgomery County are looking to have Peterson arrested again, and have filed a motion to revoke his bond. If the motion is granted, his bond will be revoked and he will be in jail until his trial.

Honestly, it's hard to even verbalize what a complete lack of situational and self-awareness this shows on Peterson's behalf. When you're in a tenuous situation like he is at the present time, what in the blue hell would possess you to do something that would potentially make it much worse?

Anyway, that's the latest update to the story. I'm sure this won't be the last we hear about it.

UPDATE: And, right on cue. . .

So there you go, folks.
