You know, it didn't even occur to me that I failed to do one of these posts for last week's game. My apologies for that. Not that most of us don't already know the history between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers, for the most part, but I should have had it up here anyway.

In any case, the Vikings obviously don't have as much history against this week's opponent, the Carolina Panthers. To this point in their history, the Vikings and Panthers have only met 11 times. This twelfth matchup between the two teams will be the ninth time the two teams have met in Minnesota. . .they've only played in Carolina three times over the years. Minnesota is 1-2 against the Panthers in Carolina and 5-3 against them in Minneapolis.

As always, the numbers in this post are brought to you by the folks from Pro Football Reference.

Number of Games Between the Vikings and the Panthers: 11 (all regular season)

All-Time Record: Vikings, 6-5

Total Vikings Points Scored, Head-to-Head: 183 (16.6 points/game)

Total Panthers Points Scored, Head-to-Head: 231 (21 points/game)

Longest Vikings Winning Streak vs Panthers: 3 (6 October 1996 - 19 November 2000)

Longest Panthers Winning Streak vs Vikings: 3 (9 September 2001 - 30 October 2005)

Most Recent Vikings Victory in Minnesota: 21 September 2008 (Final score 20-10)

Most Recent Panthers Victory in Minnesota: 13 October 2013 (Final score 35-10)

Biggest Vikings Victory in Minnesota: 14 points, 19 November 2000 (Final score 31-17)

Biggest Panthers Victory in Minnesota: 25 points, 13 October 2013 (Final score 35-10)

Yes, even though the Vikings have the all-time lead in the series, the Panthers have outscored them over the course of this head-to-head series. Of Minnesota's six victories, only two have been by double-digit scores, while the Panthers have two 25-point victories over the Vikings as well as a 19-point win.

The Vikings got pretty thoroughly thrashed by the Panthers at the Metrodome last year, but the Panthers are a different team than they were last season. Still, in the NFC South, they're right in the thick of things. . .even with a 3-7-1 record, they're just half a game out of first place. . .so they'll have plenty to fight for this Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium.
