We mentioned a couple of weeks ago that a stretch of 9th Avenue South in Minneapolis was going to be renamed after former Minnesota Vikings' head coach Bud Grant. Thanks to the folks in the Vikings' PR department, we now have the particulars about the dedication ceremony, one that will be open to the public.
The ceremony will take place on 9th Avenue South between 6th and 7th Streets on Monday, 1 December. The main members of the entourage will begin arriving at 12:15 PM, with the program scheduled to start at 12:30.
The event will be emceed by former Vikings' player "Benchwarmer" Bob Lurtesma, and will feature speeches from Ward 3 councilman Jacob Frey, Zygi and Mark Wilf, NFL executive Joe Browne, former Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall, Sid Hartman, Mike Grant, and finally the man himself.
There will be "Bud Grant Way" commemorative pins handed out to the first 500 people in attendance. If you would like more information on the event, you can contact Jeff Anderson at (952) 828-6570.
It sounds like it would be a pretty cool thing to be at. . .frankly, I wish I could make it there myself. I'm sure it will be something befitting of the occasion.
