With the off-season underway, the Minnesota Vikings took care of a little bit of business on Tuesday, signing their nine practice squad players to what are known as Reserve/Future contracts.
So, what is a "Reserve/Future" contract? Well, basically what it means is that these players are being signed for the upcoming season even though the upcoming season doesn't technically start until March.
The only players that are eligible to sign Reserve/Future contracts are players that were not on the active roster of any team when the regular season ended. (If a player was on an active roster when the season ended, they remain under contract until the start of the new league year.) Players who were on practice squads at the end of the season are eligible to sign with any team.
Obviously, the Vikings like the players they had on their practice squad, and signing them to Reserve/Future contracts keep them definitively under the team's control so they can continue to work with them.
The nine practice squad players that the team has signed to Reserve/Future contracts are as follows.
LB Justin Anderson
WR Kain Colter
QB Pat Devlin
DT Isame Faciane
WR Donte Foster
C Zac Kerin
G Jordan McCray
TE Ryan Otten
RB Dominique Williams
