It's that time of year again, folks. . .we've talked at length about fantasy football, but now it's time to sign up and match wits with the rest of your fellow Daily Norseman readers.
Courtesy of Yahoo! Sports, as it's been the past few years, we are going to be having both regular pick 'em pools, as well as a survivor league.
For those that have never been in a survival pool, here's how it works. Every week, you select one team in the National Football League that you absolutely think will win that week. If the team you select wins, you move on to the next week. . .however, you can't select that team again for the rest of the season. And if the team you pick loses? Well, you're out of the pool. It really is a "survival of the fittest" situation, and it's something I'm generally pretty bad at (although I made it all the way to Week 4 last year. . .go, me).
If you're interested in joining the survival pool, here's the information you need.
-Go to Yahoo's! Survival Football Page.
-Click on "Join League"
-The league number is 18386, and the password is "sk0lvikings" (without the quotes. . .and that's a zero, not an o).
-Name your pick set, and you're in!
EDIT: We have established a second survival pool, as the first one is now full. Everything is the same as the first league, information wise (which means the password, sk0lvikings, is the same. The league number for that one is 19072. Again, if you got into the first league, please don't sign up for the second one, too.)
We're also doing a pool where you pick all of the games every week. While we aren't using point spreads, we are using Yahoo's! system of "confidence points." The way those work is relatively straightforward.
If there are 16 games every week, you'll assign each game a point value from 1 to 16. If you assign a game a value of 16 and the team you select wins, you get 16 points, and so on. In a week with 16 games, you could max out at 136 points if you selected every game correctly. We'll do this every week for the season, and the person with the most points at the end of the year wins the pool. We also drop everyone's lowest-scoring week, so if you forget to submit your selections one week and take a zero, you're okay. (If you forget to do them more than once. . .well, you're probably hosed.)
If you would like to join the pick 'em league, here's the info.
-Go to Yahoo's! Pro Pick 'Em Page.
-Click on "Join League"
-The league number is 36555, and the password is "sk0lvikings" (without the quotes. . .and, again, that's a zero, not an o).
-Name your pick set, and you're good to go!
EDIT: We have established a second pick 'em pool, as the first one is now full. Everything is the same as the first league, information wise (which means the password, sk0lvikings, is the same. The league number for that one is 38580. Again, if you got into the first league, please don't sign up for the second one, too.)
In addition, I'm pretty sure that there's a limit on how many people can join both of these (which I believe is 100, and it's set by Yahoo!, not us). If we max out these first couple of pools, someone. . .likely either myself or Eric. . .will create another for people to join. (And if you should happen to get into the first pools, please don't enter the second ones, too.)
That's all the information you need in order to join our survival football and pick 'em leagues for the 2014 NFL season, ladies and gentlemen. Hopefully we'll see a bunch of you there!
