Minnesota Vikings News and Links, 8/5

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, everybody! We apologize for things being a little slow yesterday. . .hopefully we'll have more good stuff from Mankato for you today in anticipation of Friday's contest against the Oakland Raiders.

Since the last time we brought you an Open Thread, the only real "breaking" news that we had was the team's signing of veteran safety Chris Crocker.

From some other sources across the internet. . .

-Yahoo! Sports has put the Vikings at #17 on their "Juggernaut Index," which ranks teams in terms of fantasy football potential.

-The team will name the (temporary) replacement for special teams coach Mike Priefer before too much longer.

-Even with a huge new contract and increased expectations, defensive end Everson Griffen says that he isn't feeling any added pressure.

-It's getting close to the start of the season for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, too. . .our friends at The Daily Gopher have a preview of their first opponent, the Eastern Illinois Panthers.

The rules of the Open Thread are the same as they've ever been, ladies and gentlemen. . .no religion, no politics, no feeding of the trolls, keep the bad language to a minimum (using spoiler tags, if necessary), and keep the GIFs relatively work-safe.

For today's entertainment, a video that we've probably had on here before, but it's still awesome. Because Adrian Peterson is awesome. And his haters (and Viking haters in general) can commence to sucking it.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open for this Tuesday, ladies and gentlemen. Enjoy the rest of your day!
