Steve Smith Tried To Fight Jermaine Wiggins

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

While he was a member of the Minnesota Vikings, I always had a bit of a soft spot for tight end Jermaine Wiggins. Honestly, how can you not love a fat guy that does things like this?

Well, you know who isn't a fan of Jermaine Wiggins? Apparently current Baltimore Ravens' wide receiver Steve Smith, who was a teammate of Wiggins' in Carolina in 2002 and 2003. Wiggins is now a radio personality in the Boston area, and was at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro for this weekend's playoff game. The Sporting News is reporting that, following the Ravens' 35-31 loss to the New England Patriots, Smith decided he wanted to get Wiggy with it.

Smith approaches Wiggy and wants to talk about, 'You called me a bully. I heard you called me a bully.'

To which, Wiggy said: 'I did call you a bully. you know you are one.'

And I talked to Wiggy about it. He said at that point I thought he was, you know, just kind of busting chops and wasn't like serious. Then all of a sudden, it got like really violent and he was in my face looking for a fight! He tried to fight Jermaine Wiggins after the game.

Wiggy starts saying, 'You're a bleep, and you won't do bleep!'

So [Smith] sees Wiggy and he's like 'Yo, what's up?!' And Wiggy's like, 'Hey, what's up?' And Smith is like, 'No dude, what the bleep's up?' And Wiggy's like, 'Oh no, now you're swearing in front of my kids.' And he's like, 'You gotta step off.' And then it starts getting nasty.

And Steve is like, 'You called me a bully! So what's up with that? You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna bleep you right now."

And Wiggy's like, 'Man, you gott stop in front of my kids.'

Over the years, Smith has had a propensity for punching people, whether they're opponents, teammates, or whoever. I'm not sure how smart it would have been for Smith to try to jump on a guy that has a significant size advantage and some MMA training under his belt, but "smart" probably didn't enter into it at the time.
