Another week, and another weekly accolade for a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
Today, punt returner Marcus Sherels was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 8 of NFL action for his performance in Sunday's 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
The highlight was, of course, Sherels' 65-yard punt return in the first quarter that put the Vikings ahead. It was the third punt return for a touchdown of Sherels' career, allowing him to claim sole possession of the Vikings' all-time franchise record that he had previously shared with Mewelde Moore and David Palmer.
Sherels wound up averaging 25.7 yards/punt return on the afternoon, and threw in two special teams tackles for good measure. Without Sherels' contributions, the Vikings likely would have lost at Soldier Field. . .again. . .instead of escaping with the victory and pushing their record on the season to 5-2.
Congratulations to Marcus Sherels on being honored as the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 8!
