It's the first day of the new league year, ladies and gentlemen! Free agents can start signing with their new teams as of 3 PM Central time today (though, obviously, we've already seen news on a ton of signings already). I don't know how active the Minnesota Vikings will be when things get started, but whatever happens, we will have it here for you.
Since the last time we brought you an Open Thread. . .
-The Vikings reached out to another of Mike Zimmer's former players, as there is mutual interest between them and Cincinnati Bengals guard Clint Boling.
-And the Vikings signed their third in-house free agent, agreeing to a one-year deal with running back Matt Asiata. He joins Tom Johnson and Cullen Loeffler as Vikings that won't make it to free agency.
From some other sources around the internet. . .
-The league is very angry about news of contract agreements being leaked before the start of the actual free agency period. Not so angry that they've stopped putting them on the front page of NFL.com or anything, but you know. . .angry.
-Former Vikings' running back and cult favorite Bradley Randle has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. Best of luck to him up there.
-The Vikings may or may not be "in the mix" for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree.
The rules of the Open Thread are as follows:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-No pictures that could potentially get someone fired or in serious trouble at their place of employment
-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open for this Tuesday, ladies and gentlemen. I'm sure we'll have plenty for you as the day wears on.
