Report: Minnesota Vikings Reach Out To Taylor Mays

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

In a move that will make our own mock draft maven Mark very happy, the Minnesota Vikings have apparently reached out to another name from Mike Zimmer's past.

Per Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings have been in contact with the representatives for Cincinnati Bengals' safety Taylor Mays.

Mays was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft (#49 overall, strangely enough) out of the University of Southern California. He was traded to the Bengals in 2011, and has played there ever since.

It would appear that the majority of Mays' impact has come on special teams, as Pro Football Focus has him as only having played 61 snaps on defense in 2014 and less than 300 in each of the two seasons before that. Perhaps that's the role that the Vikings have in mind for him, because with as little playing time as he's seen at the safety position over the past couple of years, it wouldn't appear that he'd be an answer there.

But there's another name on the list for the Minnesota Vikings as we get closer to the start of free agency.
