Vikings Mock 4.1.15

New, comments

The Vikings are gearing up for the draft and still could be contemplating some other moves in free agency as well. With 7 picks in this upcoming draft it is hard to imagine that the Vikings will stay put and not move around in the draft in an effort to secure extra picks. Doing a mock draft without any movement is kind of useless to me. The last 3 years have proven that Spielman does not stand pat.

I will say that I think Spielman has a tough tough job. Running a draft is no joke and no matter how many mocks you do it has to be tough to coordinate considering the time you have between picks. You got teams calling you making offers or wasting your time.  You got a player being taken that you had hoped would fall to you making you change your strategy very quickly.  He really does a good job.

I don't like all of his picks but I don't like mine either and usually less than 5 minutes after I finish a mock.  Still, I am going to ride his arse until the Vikings start winning games on a consistent basis.  That comes with his job too.  Results are what matters in the end and there is only one result that matters.  Wins!

Now what other free agent moves would be decent before the draft?  What free agents should the Vikings target.  A good thread is up already here ...

Steve Wisniewski is a player that I believe would help the offensive line.  He would have to play guard for at least a couple of years but then you might be able to move him to center.  Kind of curious he has not signed anywhere yet.  Must be the money.

I like Gabe Carimi OG/OT, Colin McCarthy LB, and Da'Quan Bowers DE/DT as low level signings. They can come in and compete and none would be guaranteed to make the roster.

As for Adrian Peterson, well, I am going to continue to cook up trades because that is where I think it is headed.  I have laid out reasons in my this mock draft here

In summary it comes down to 3 choices for me with AP.

Best Choice - Trade him
OK Choice - Sign him to a new deal
Worst Choice - Keep him and do nothing with his contract

So here is the new mock for today ...

1. The Vikings trade Adrian Peterson to the New York Jets for the #37 pick, Dee Milliner CB, plus a 2016 conditional 5th.

The question is why would the Jets make this move?  Well, I don't know really.  My guess is they like to make big moves and having AP behind Geno Smith may be something they feel is good for their young QB. They do have Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, and Daryl Richardson which could be viewed as good enough.  I just think they might be too tempted to make another splash and getting AP could be the piece they feel puts them in serious contention for the division.  Trading away Milliner would be tough.  He has been hurt a lot though.  They signed Revis, cromartie, and Skrine in the off season which leaves Milliner as the 4th CB.  Getting him in this trade is a risk due to his injury history but if he can stay healthy he could be a very nice addition.

So now I go onto the draft. The Vikings have these picks now 1.11, 2.37, 2.45, 3.76, 4.110, 5.137, 7.228, 7.232.

I used used the drafttek mock draft dated 04/01/2015 as a guide.
Note: they could update their mock and the new date will be listed.

1st trade - 1.11 to the Saints for 1.13 & 5.12

The Saints make this trade to move up to ensure they get Randy Gregory DE.  The Saints also have 9 picks in this draft.

2nd trade - 1.13 to the Chiefs for 1.18 & 3.16

The Chiefs make this trade to move up to ensure they get Devante Parker WR.  The Chiefs also have 10 picks in this draft.

3rd trade - 1.18 & 7.15 to the Bengals for 1.21, 5.21, & 6.21

The Bengals make this trade to move up to ensure they get La'el Collins OT.  The Bengals also have 9 picks in this draft.

1.21.21 Jalen Collins CB LSU

2.05.37 Breshad Perriman WR Central Florida

2.13.45 Stephone Anthony LB Clemson

3.12.76 Ameer Abdullah RB Nebraska

3.16.80 Cedric Ogbuehi OT/OG Texas A&M

4.11.110 Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB Oregon

5.01.137 Lynden Trail DE Norfolk State

5.12.148 Josue Matias OG Florida State

5.21.157 Chris Conley WR Georgia

6.21.197 Sean Mannion QB Oregon State

7.11.228 Frank Clark DE Michigan

Tyler Varga FB Yale
Bryan Bennett QB Southeastern Louisiana
John Crockett RB North Dakota STATE!
Tyeler Davison DT Fresno State
Mark Glowinski OG West Virginia
Corey Grant RB Auburn
Brian Blechen SS Utah
James Castleman DT Oklahoma State
Takoby Cofield OT Duke
Andrew East LS Vanderbilt

Now I am going to do a mock draft with no trades except for the one with AP.  Apparently making trades in mock drafts upsets the sensibilities of some draft "experts".  Kind of odd that these experts feel that way even though Spielman has made trades (about 4) in every draft since 2012.

Here is an alternate mock using the drafttek mock without trades.

1.11.11 Randy Gregory DE/OLB Nebraska
2.05.37 Dorial Green-Beckham WR Missouri
2.13.45 PJ Williams CB Florida State
3.12.76 Ty Sambrailo OT Colorado State
4.11.110 Marcus Hardison DT Arizzona State
5.01.137 David Cobb RB Minnesota
7.11.228 Ryan Russell DE Indiana
7.15.232 Jacorey Shepherd CB Kansas

Well there it is.

Note: I forgot the 6th round pick like a doofus.
