The top ten of our 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft concludes with the selection by the St. Louis Rams. The Rams have a very good defense, but they're a bit lacking on the offensive side of the ball. They have a brand new quarterback in Nick Foles, and with this selection VikesFanatic has given the Rams someone to help keep him upright.
With the tenth pick in the 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select. . .
La'el Collins, offensive tackle, Louisiana State University
Here's what VikesFanatic had to say about the selection.
This pick serves to help fill the massive hole at OL for St. Louis. I see Collins filling in nicely at RT for the departed Joe Barksdale, but they also have need at LG where some analysts think he will be earning his paycheck. It is tempting to put him at LG next to last year's pick Greg Robinson paving the way for Tre Mason, but I think RT is of bigger concern than G for the Rams right now, thus this pick over Scherff. I also considered Kevin White to help with the WR needs but the Rams have been striking out lately with early WR selections and with such a deep class I see them dipping into that barrel on day two. Todd Gurley was also in consideration to pair up with Tre Mason, but a competent O-Line is a necessity while Gurley would be a luxury pick. If Collins had been gone, the next in line on my big board were Kevin White, Brandon Scherff, Todd Gurley, and T.J. Clemmings.
My Thoughts
Personally, I'm a bit surprised to see Collins as the first offensive lineman off the board with Iowa offensive lineman Brandon Scherff still on the board. But Collins is no slouch, either. He started every game at left guard in his second year at LSU before moving to left tackle for his final two seasons. He and Robinson could immediately form a pretty formidable left side for the Rams if Robinson can improve over his very up-and-down rookie season. Or, as VikesFanatic said, they could immediately slot him at right tackle. I don't know if it's the pick I would have made. . .I likely would have had a wide receiver slotted here. . .but I can understand the logic behind this selection for the Rams.
With that, the Top Ten picks have been submitted for our mock draft, and the stage is set for the Minnesota Vikings' selection on Monday at around 8 AM Central time.
