2015 NFL Mock Draft: Houston Texans Select Ereck Flowers

New, comments
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The first half of our 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft concludes with the Houston Texans and the #16 overall pick. After a disastrous 2013 season that saw them end up with the #1 overall selection (that they used on Jadeveon Clowney. . .that went badly), they rebounded in 2014 to go 9-7 in their first season under coach Bill O'Brien. We have Vikes4lyfe running the controls for the Texans in our draft, so let's see who he's selected.

With the sixteenth pick in the 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, the Houston Texans select. . .

Ereck Flowers, offensive tackle, University of Miami (Florida)

Here's a brief explanation from Vikes4lyfe about why he made the selection he did.

The Texans have a hole at wide receiver, but with the top three already gone and a deep class, they decide to go elsewhere. If trades were in play, a trade down at this spot would be my choice, but with the players available, it came down to Peat, Flowers, and Kendricks. The Texans go o-line here because they feel they are one piece away from having a truly elite group to open holes for Arian Foster. The Peat/Flowers question is close, but Flowers is the choice because his ceiling is likely higher than Peat.

My Thoughts

The Texans' needs don't really sync up with the rest of the board here, so it appears that the Texans are going to add depth to their offensive line with this selection. Flowers is a bit unrefined, but plays with the sort of nasty streak you like to see out of an offensive lineman. He might not start right away with Duane Brown and Derek Newton starting at the tackle spots, but he would provide the Texans with quality depth at the position. With the scenario falling the way it has so far, it wouldn't be surprising to see the slide end for Trae Waynes here, or even for Dorial Green-Beckham to come off the board at this spot. But, Flowers is the selection for our virtual Houston Texans here.

What do you think of this selection, folks?
