We're on to the 18th pick in our Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, and a second consecutive AFC West team in the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were on the outside looking in at the AFC playoffs last year, and they have a number of different directions they can go with this pick. This is a pick that I had to make as the team's GM did not submit a pick by the required time and, to me, there's one position of need that stands out above all of the rest.
With the eighteenth pick in the 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select. . .
Dorial Green-Beckham, wide receiver, University of Oklassouri
See, because he started out at Missouri, but he got into trouble there and transferred to Oklahoma, but he didn't actually play for Oklahoma, so he's going to be announced as being from Missouri and oh dear I've gone cross-eyed.
Since the selection was made by me, let's move directly on to. . .
My Thoughts
Say, did you know that the Kansas City Chiefs' wide receiver corps didn't have a single receiving touchdown last season? Well, they didn't. They've attempted to rectify that a little bit by signing free agent Jeremy Maclin, but the depth chart at the position still isn't anything special beyond him. Enter Green-Beckham, a native of St. Louis, who might be the biggest boom-or-bust prospect in the entire draft. There's little doubt that Green-Beckham has all the physical gifts you could hope for, as he's about 6'5" and 240 pounds while running a sub-4.5 40-yard dash. However, he had all sorts of off-field issues while he was with Missouri, including several drug issues and an incident where he broke into an apartment and wound up pushing a woman down several stairs. As mentioned, that ended up getting him kicked off the Tigers' team after his freshman year. He transferred to Oklahoma, where he was required to sit out a year after transferring, but then declared for the NFL Draft instead.
Green-Beckham has all the potential in the world, and if he has his head on straight, the Chiefs could be getting themselves a huge steal here. He's probably the most polarizing prospect in the draft at this point, but someone is going to take a chance on his potential. In this scenario, the Chiefs are that team.
What do you think of this selection, folks?
