2015 NFL Mock Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Select Landon Collins

New, comments
Kevin Liles-USA TODAY Sports

We conclude the second week of our Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft with one of the more active teams of this offseason so far, the Philadelphia Eagles. There's Chip Kelly's quest to, apparently, acquire every player he ever coached at the University of Oregon, as well as the team's swapping out LeSean McCoy for DeMarco Murray at the running back position. What's the next step for the team? Well, in this scenario, it's to continue to build their defensive backfield.

With the twentieth pick in the 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select. . .

Landon Collins, safety, University of Alabama

Here's what Eagles virtual GM AVeazey24 had to say about the selection.

By far the best safety in the draft, he would bring an immediate impact to a secondary that just added Byron Maxwell and Walter Thurmond. Malcolm Jenkins played fairly well for them last year, but Nate Allen has to go. Collins would come in right away and start and make this a much better secondary. He's a sure tackler who led an Alabama defense in tackles and interceptions this past year. Although his hands could be better, he's a defensive back, not a wide receiver. He does have the size to match up with tight ends, and has the quickness to keep up with slot receivers.

My Thoughts

With the Vikings being in the market for a safety, we've heard a lot around here about Landon Collins throughout the pre-draft process. He's the consensus top player at the position in this year's draft, and there doesn't appear to be anyone terribly close in a fairly weak safety class. Collins has his weaknesses in coverage, but the Eagles (or any other team that selects him) would likely use him as more of an in-the-box type of safety, which is where his strengths lie. He's very solid in run support, and if he can get his stuff together in the pass game, he could end up being a very good safety in the NFL. Solid pick for the Eagles here, in my opinion.

What do you think of this selection, folks?
