2015 NFL Mock Draft: Carolina Panthers Select T.J. Clemmings

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

We're into the last quarter of our 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, and we kick it off with the league's worst playoff team last year, the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers finished with the same 7-9 record that our beloved Minnesota Vikings did, and took a pretty good thrashing from the Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium, but that was still good enough for them to win the awful NFC South and even manage a playoff victory. The Panthers have a couple of directions they could go with this pick, but one of their needs stands out above all of the rest.

With the 25th pick in the 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, the Carolina Panthers select. . .

T.J. Clemmings, offensive tackle, University of Pittsburgh

I wound up making this selection, as our originally designated selector, SweetTooth, had some issues come up that prevented him from getting his selection in. So, let's move on to. . .

My Thoughts

Clemmings played right tackle for the Panthers, but the prevailing wisdom coming into the draft is that he has the ability to play either tackle spot. That fits right in with the Panthers, who are a mess at both tackle positions right now. He's been a but under the radar, which isn't easy to do in an offensive line class that doesn't appear to be terribly strong on the surface, but Clemmings is the sort of player that could immediately step in and help protect Cam Newton and. . .well, whoever is going to end up at running back for Carolina in 2015. Like I said, there were a couple of different directions that Carolina could have gone here (corner, wide receiver), but the need at offensive tackle seems to be the biggest, and that's why I went with Clemmings here.

What do you think of the selection, folks?
