2015 NFL Mock Draft: Indianapolis Colts Select Eddie Goldman

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

We've made it to the last four picks in the 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, as we're inside of one week to go until draft day. At #29, we have the team that lost the 2014 AFC Championship Game, the Indianapolis Colts. This pick was made by our very own CCNorseman, and he's made a pick to give Andrew Luck and company some help on the defensive front and continues the late first round run on defensive tackles.

With the 29th pick in the 2015 Daily Norseman Community Mock Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select. . .

Eddie Goldman, defensive tackle, Florida State University

Here's what CCNorseman had to say about his pick.

The Colts really need a starting safety, but unfortunately Landon Collins was off the board. After that they have lots of other needs at running back, offensive line, defensive line and linebacker. With the top offensive lineman all off the board that left me with a choice between who I see as the best remaining players available: RB Melvin Gordon and DT Eddie Goldman. I briefly considered OLB Shaq Thompson or CB Jalen Collins too, but Gordon and Goldman would represent the best value based on consensus big boards and both would fill a need. With the team signing Frank Gore in free agency and also still having Vick Ballard and Dan Herron on the roster, I felt they could wait until a much later point in the draft and get better value at running back. Eddie Goldman is the prototypical nose tackle and would be a perfect fit for the Colts 3-4 defense that currently lacks talent at nose tackle position, so he was the no-brainer pick, and a popular mock option for the Colts too.

My Thoughts

CCNorseman is correct in his assessment, in my opinion. The Colts run a 3-4 defensive front, and they've tried Josh Chapman at the nose tackle spot, but he hasn't quite worked out the way they might like. Goldman would immediately step in as the starter for the Colts and nose tackle and immediately give them a physical presence up front that could demand double teams fairly early on. There are plenty of directions the Colts could have gone with this pick, but Eddie Goldman might be the best player on the board and fills a pretty significant need for Indianapolis.
