Oh, Snap! Vikings Sign Kevin McDermott

Just when you thought the Minnesota Vikings were done with big-time free agent signings, they. . .well, they've done nothing to change that, really.

According to Rand Getlin of Yahoo! Sports, the Vikings have signed long snapper Kevin McDermott.

McDermott played his college ball at UCLA, where he was a teammate of current. . .for the time being, anyway. . .Vikings punter Jeff Locke. He has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens during his time in the NFL. He snapped for the Ravens in two games this past season, and in seven games for the 49ers in 2013.

Despite the fact that the Vikings' re-signed incumbent long snapper Cullen Loeffler this off-season, he is back on a one-year deal, and has just $300,000 of guaranteed money in his deal. (McDermott has no guaranteed money in his contract.) It would appear that the Vikings are, at the very least, exhausting every avenue in an attempt to upgrade from Loeffler, who was graded as one of the worst long snappers in the league last season.

The Vikings could be of the impression that bringing in Locke's former college teammate could aid his performance, which was also one of the worst in the league at the position in 2014. Will the Vikings actually make a switch? It's too early to tell at this point, but it really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone if they do.
