On the next episode of Days of Our Vikings Lives...
Earlier today we told you how Mike Zimmer felt about Adrian Peterson holding out of the team's OTAs. And in true Zimmer fashion, he kept it real and straight to the point--either AP was playing in Minnesota this season or he wasn't playing at all. (As if we needed another reason to love the no-nonsense Vikings head coach.) But since this team is obviously incapable of going more than 24 hours without some sort of headline-grabbing off-the-field news, Peterson has responded with a statement to ESPN reporter Josina Anderson:
The reason I'm not attending OTAs has nothing to do with wanting to be traded. It's about securing my future with the Vikings. It's business, not personal and I understand that firsthand. Go Vikings.
I'm pretty sure all those reports of AP wanting out of Minnesota weren't fabricated, but it appears that Peterson would be A-OK with sticking around if the Vikings would simply pony up more guaranteed money for their star running back.
Who was forced to sit out all but one game last season.
And just turned 30.
And already has over 2,000 career rushes on his odometer.
And has played all 16 games just once since 2009.
And is already due nearly $13 million in salary for the 2015 season.
Unless, you know, he retires because he doesn't get his way.
Go Vikings indeed. Whether it's with or without Peterson still remains to be seen.
