The broadcast of Minnesota Vikings preseason football games are going to have a new home in the Twin Cities area this season.
After having their games carried on KARE-11, the local NBC affiliate, for the past few seasons, the team has announced that preseason games for the 2015 season will be shown on FOX 9. The Vikings will have five preseason games this year, but only four of them will be shown on FOX 9. Their first preseason game, the Hall of Fame Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Canton, Ohio on 9 August, will be televised nationally by NBC.
It appears that the team will continue to go with the radio simulcast that they've used the past couple of years, meaning that Paul Allen and Pete Bercich will be on the mic on both the television broadcast and on the Vikings Radio Network.
FOX 9 has also announced that pregame shows produced by the Vikings Entertainment Network will also be picked up by the network as part of their Vikings coverage.
The addition of four preseason games means that sixteen of the Vikings' twenty-one. . .for now. . .contests in 2015 will be on FOX 9. In addition to the Hall of Fame game, the following regular season games will be on non-FOX stations.
-Week 1 at San Francisco (Monday night game, aired by ESPN)
-Week 3 vs San Diego (aired by CBS)
-Week 6 vs Kansas City (aired by CBS)
-Week 14 at Arizona (Thursday night game, aired on NFL Network)
FOX 9 will also lose any games that might get flexed into the Sunday night spot later on in the season, as those games will also be aired by NBC. The Thursday night game in Week 14 could also get carried by a local affiliate.
So, if you're going to be looking for broadcasts of Minnesota Vikings preseason football, don't look on KARE-11 any longer. The action this preseason will be on FOX 9 instead.
