Well, it's time to take a look at our favorite football team. . .and, more specifically, some of the parts about it that we don't like very much. So, today's discussion topic might be a difficult one to answer, but we're going to give it a go anyway.
Who is your least favorite current member of the Minnesota Vikings?
Now, we're not talking about someone that you're openly hoping for failure for. . .obviously, we want every member of the team to succeed. But we know that there are players that there are issues with, so that's what this topic is about.
For me, at this point, I'd probably have to go with Matt Kalil. And the reasons for that are simple. It's because, as things stand right now, he's probably the biggest question mark on the team and the one that the most hinges upon in 2015. We're expecting a lot of improvement from a lot of parts of the Minnesota Vikings this coming season, whether it's Teddy Bridgewater or the offense as a whole or the defense taking another step. But, as we've talked about in the past, the biggest question mark on the team is the offensive line, and Kalil is the biggest question mark among those question marks.
The sad part is that we've seen Kalil perform and a high level in the past, and we know he should be capable of more. He had a very good rookie season, but we've seen a serious decline from him over the past couple of years. If this team is going to take another step in 2015, they need Matt Kalil to regain that 2012 form. He's stated that he's in the best shape he's been in for quite a while, and that his knees (which have given him problems over the past couple of years) are at 100%. He's even put on significantly more weight than we're used to seeing him carry, so hopefully that will help him in getting back into form this season.
With a young, developing quarterback like Teddy Bridgewater and an offense that looks like it could be ready to break out, they can't afford to have their biggest question mark be the guy that protects Bridgewater's blind side. But, unfortunately, that's what Kalil is right now. That's why, as much as I can have a "least favorite" Viking, he's the guy I'd have to pick.
Have at it, ladies and gentlemen!
