News And Notes From Training Camp Practice #1

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

The first practice of Training Camp for the Minnesota Vikings is in the books, as the team completed their first walk-through a short time ago. The team has a practice coming at 2:45 PM, but it doesn't sound as though the media is going to be allowed at that practice, so this might be all we get for today.

One of the stories that I found surprising was that a guy I thought might have been the leader for the starting right guard spot is, now, no longer in the running for the job at all.

The majority of snaps for the first team at right guard went to Mike Harris. Mike Zimmer was quoted as saying that "weren't ready to stick a rookie in" at that spot, which might not bode terribly well for Tyrus Thompson, either. Then again, Thompson's name was mentioned as being in the mix, so who knows. In any event, the T.J. Clemmings to guard experiment is over. . .for now.

The team placed defensive tackle Shamar Stephen on the Non-Football Injury List, but it apparently isn't anything serious.

No word on receiver DaVaris Daniels, who was also placed on the NFI list this morning.

During practice, rather than "How's Teddy look," we got an early look at "How Xavier looks."

A couple of depth chart updates courtesy of Arif. Neither of these should really surprise anyone, to be honest.

Captain Munnerlyn was substituting in for Cole in the nickel package to start with, leaving Barr and Greenway as the linebackers.

Your second team linebackers were Brandon Watts, Eric Kendricks, and Gerald Hodges.

Speaking of Barr. . .

Mike Zimmer has high hopes for a guy the Vikings brought in last season.

Those are just a few of the things that people saw at the first practice of Minnesota Vikings' Training Camp, folks. If more news becomes available, we'll have it here for you as soon as we can get it posted.
