We're one practice into Training Camp for the Minnesota Vikings, and one of the team's players has already had their 2015 season come to an end.
Casey Matthews, who was a longshot to make the team at linebacker after signing with the team in the offseason, was placed on injured reserve this morning. He had a hip injury that Coach Mike Zimmer said came as a result of jumping over a hurdle during the offseason.
The team did not place the designation to return on Matthews, which means his season is already finished. Like we've said, he was a longshot to make the roster and signed a minimal deal, so from a personnel standpoint this really doesn't do much for the Vikings.
The bigger news from this, from a football perspective, is that it gives the Vikings an opening on the 90-man roster. No word yet as to where the team might look to fill the spot at this time, though I would suspect we'd hear something fairly quickly on that front.
