Minnesota Vikings Week 1 Inactives and Starters

The six inactive players for the Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers have been announced, along with a new surprise starter.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Those of you that wanted to see the premiere of Mr. Mankato will have to wait at least another week.

Those of you that wanted to see someone other than Robert Blanton starting at safety will not.

The Minnesota Vikings take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football in less than an hour, and now we know who the inactive players will be:

QB Taylor Heinicke

WR Stefon Diggs

LB Edmond Robinson

T Jeremiah SIrles

TE Chase Ford

DE Justin Trattou

The biggest surprise is Diggs, who impressed with his nifty punt returns in the preseason and earned the prestigious title of "Mr. Mankato" in Training Camp. Sirles just joined the team so it's not much of a surprise that he won't dress even though the Vikings are depleted at offensive line. Ford is the odd tight end out and Trattou is still behind Scott Crichton and Danielle Hunter on the depth chart.

However, the omission of Diggs from the active roster may not be the biggest surprise of the night. It has been confirmed by multiple outlets that Andrew Sendejo will start at safety opposite Harrison Smith over Robert Blanton. The rest of the defensive starters are as expected: Gerald Hodges will get the nod at middle linebacker while Captain Munnerlyn will be the nickel cornerback. Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer has stated that rookie Trae Waynes probably won't see much action outside of special teams tonight.

Stay tuned for kickoff! SKOL!!!
