Minnesota Vikings Release Brandon Watts

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Another linebacker has gotten his walking papers out of Winter Park as the team whittles their way down to 53 players.

The team has informed linebacker Brandon Watts that he is going to be released. Watts was one of the team's seventh-round picks in the 2014 NFL Draft, having played his college ball at Georgia Tech. He had some injury issues that were pointed out by Mike Zimmer during the 2014 preseason. He did end up finally getting on the field. . .only to get hurt again.

The team is now down to seven linebackers, and this is apparently an indication that both Michael Mauti and Edmond Robinson, the latter of whom was a seventh-round pick in this year's draft, are going to remain with the team and round out the depth chart at the linebacker position.

No word yet on whether or not Watts will be brought back to the practice squad, even though I believe he is eligible for it.
