With the 3:00 PM Central time deadline having come and gone, the Minnesota Vikings' final cuts are finally starting to trickle in.
The team finally cut one of their picks from the 2015 NFL Draft. They cut ties with offensive tackle Tyrus Thompson, who they selected in the sixth round of this year's selection meeting out of the University of Oklahoma. Thompson had a pretty disappoint preseason, as he got time at a couple of different positions and didn't particularly stand out at any of them. We had originally reported that Thompson might be safe, as he hadn't completed the league's concussion protocol after suffering one in Thursday's preseason finale. Apparently that was completed before the roster deadline came around.
The team has also cut ties with a Daily Norseman favorite, as they have released linebacker Michael Mauti. Mauti was a seventh-round pick of the Vikings out of Penn State in 2013, and after overcoming a series of knee injuries in college, he was a very solid special teams player for the Vikings. However, he just couldn't crack the linebacker rotation, and as such is now a former Viking. That leaves the Vikings with six linebackers now. . .many people, including myself, were debating whether they'd keep seven or eight. Apparently the team has different ideas.
We're still tracking everything that's going on with the team, and we'll have a finalized roster for you as soon as we can.
