Frigga Fantasy Football...Tuesdays?

New, comments

CCNorseman shares some results of the official Daily Norseman Fantasy League draft, and what's in store for the Frigga Fantasy Football Fridays series this season.

Poor Blair Walsh, after missing so many Preseason field goals and extra points, nobody wants him on their fantasy teams.

Welcome to a special Tuesday edition of Frigga Fantasy Football. No, these won't be coming out on Tuesdays this year, have no fear. This is just a special Tuesday draft edition, and to also help get the word out about a little twitter event that will be happening this year.  So, last night we held the live, online draft for the official Daily Norseman Fantasy Football League.  It's a 12-team league featuring standard PPR scoring, but with a small twist. There's an extra WR position for 10 starters instead of the usual 9, and one less bench position (only 6). This makes the waiver wire a little more challenging at the wide receiver position, but should still leave some depth at other positions.

In any case, we had a few auto-drafters, as expected, but by and large it went well!  There were definitely some interesting selections due to the auto-drafters, and our first round went like this:

1. Jamaal Charles (KC - RB) MayTheNorseBeWithYou - Viketoryordeath
2. Dez Bryant (Dal - WR) CrisCarters FallGuys - RedHat16
3. Adrian Peterson (Min - RB) TheBlairWalshProject - Typically Lazy
4. Marshawn Lynch (Sea - RB) Joe Webb Still Sucks - Christopher Gates
5. Eddie Lacy (GB - RB) Arif's Team - Arif Hasan
6. Le'Veon Bell (Pit - RB) Zim Reaper - vikingarmy
7. Antonio Brown (Pit - WR) Diggs Darklighter - CCNorseman
8. Rob Gronkowski (NE - TE) Jackson's Team - Jackson McIntire
9. Julio Jones (Atl - WR) Jules Winnfield - MarkSP18
10. Demaryius Thomas (Den - WR) HitmanHarry - DADAIR25
11. Odell Beckham Jr. (NYG - WR) Yankey Doodle Dandy - TINO24
12. Matt Forte (Chi - RB) 2 Glovez - Eric Thompson

The thing that sticks out the most to me is that in a league full of all Vikings fans, Adrian Peterson was NOT the first player off the board!  Also, seeing Dez Bryant go 2nd overall was kind of shocking as I had him as my #9 player overall.  I was elated to have Antonio Brown fall to me in the 7th position in a PPR draft.  He was my #2 overall player on the board.  I won't bore you to death with a full run-down of the entire draft and roster details, but here are some interesting Vikings-related tidbits in our draft:

1. After Peterson went #3 overall, the next Viking player off the board was WR Charles Johnson in the 6th round (66th overall).

2. Mike Wallace went a round after Johnson in the 7th (76 overall).

3. Surprisingly Teddy Bridgewater lasted all the way to the 10th round (118th overall).

4. Kyle Rudolph was selected a round later at the top of the 11th (121st overall).

5. While the Vikings defense went early in Round 13 (147th overall), nobody drafted Blair Walsh.

6. After that, no other Vikings players were drafted, not Mckinnon, not Jarius Wright and not MyCole Pruitt.

Since this is a Vikings blog, I assume that many readers will have Vikings players littered throughout their fantasy teams.  So, the plan is for Frigga Fantasy Football to come out every Friday morning where I will break down the weekly stat projections for every fantasy relevant player for the Vikings. Even if you're not interested in fantasy football, you might enjoy seeing and reading about the statistical projections for each player in a given week.  I will continue to chime in on the comments section to give out fantasy football advice when I have the time, but this year I'm going to try something new, especially for those of you on twitter!  If you'd like me to answer a question directly in the main article, hit me up on twitter with a question, and be sure to include the hastag: #HelpMeFrigga.  You can follow me on twitter and direct your questions to me here: @CCNorseman

So, I look forward to reading your questions on twitter and you can follow along with the DN Fantasy League each Friday to see how everyone is doing.  When the draft was finished last night, Yahoo! issued their draft grades, which were based solely on end of the year projection totals.  And here is how things sit leading into the first week of the season:

Draft Grades

  • Jules Winnfield, A-
  • Yankey Doodle Dandy, B
  • MayTheNorseBeWithYou, B
  • Arif's Team, B
  • 2 Glovez, B
  • HitmanHarry, B
  • Diggs Darklighter, B
  • Zim Reaper, B-
  • TheBlairWalshProject, C+
  • Jackson's Team, C+
  • Joe Webb Still Sucks, C
  • CrisCarters FallGuys, C

I'm not sure that I agree 100% with these draft grades, because projections are notoriously bad. And this only says something about each team's draft, not in their ability to navigate the waiver wire, make trades or pick the right players to sit and start each week. Those last three things really determine who wins and loses in fantasy football, even if it does help to have a strong draft.  So, good luck to everyone in fantasy football this season, whether you made it into the Daily Norseman Fantasy League or not!  Once again, get your questions into me on Twitter with the hashtag #HelpMeFrigga and aim them to me @CCNorseman
