Well, that certainly didn't take long.
A couple of hours ago, we told you that the Minnesota Vikings were interviewing former Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano for their offensive line coach position today, and former New York Giants' offensive line coach was lined up for an interview as well.
According to Grandpa Sports over at the Star-Tribune, Flaherty can feel free to make other plans, as Sparano was officially hired by the team today.
Sparano was the head coach of the Dolphins from 2008 to 2011, and the interim head coach of the Oakland Raiders for the final twelve games of 2014. In between, he was the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets and the offensive line coach for Oakland (prior to his promotion).
More importantly, he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys' coaching staff at the same time current Vikings' head coach Mike Zimmer was there. Zimmer was the Cowboys' defensive coordinator from 2000-2006, and Sparano was the Cowboys' tight ends coach in 2003-2004 and their offensive line coach/running game coordinator in 2005-2006.
Someone who is more learned in offensive line schemes than I am can probably shed some light on what type of blocking scheme Sparano prefers, but for now it appears that it's taken the Vikings less than 24 hours to fill their offensive line coaching vacancy.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be over here trying to train myself to not type "Tony Soprano" every time I make reference to him.
