Marcus Sherels Hits The Vikings’ Record Books

With his 80-yard return in the second quarter, Sherels has extended one record, set one, and tied another.

It’s becoming a bit of a running joke that we predict cornerback/Marcus Sherels is going to get cut every year, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to be able to make that joke any longer.

Sherels ripped off an 80-yard touchdown return in the second quarter of the Minnesota Vikings’ game against the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon, and in the process put himself into the Vikings’ record books for a couple of different marks.

-For starters, he is the first member of the Minnesota Vikings to have two punt return touchdowns in a season. He has that record all to himself.

-The return was also the fifth of his career, extending his team record in that category.

-In addition, with that fifth return, he has tied Percy Harvin’s team record for the most kick or punt returns in team history. Harvin had five touchdowns on kickoff returns, while Sherels has had five on punt returns.

Congratulations to Marcus Sherels on putting his name in the record books for good. . .and, yes, we’ll stop joking about him getting cut.
