Barooooooo, it's Thursday, y'all! We're closing in on another weekend, and a Sunday with Vikings football. God help the Lions. Our new offense is going to go out and curb-stomp that D, and Stafford might end up with more sacks than passing yards. (just a bit of hyperbole, but I'm excited to see our new offensive approach)
Around the DN since our last open thread (yeah, there's been a bit of news):
Norv Turner resigned as offensive coordinator yesterday. Best of luck to him in retirement or wherever he goes, he's been a class act here and seemed to give Coach Zimmer a lot of help.
Chris posted the Minnesota Vikings Power Rankings Roundup: Week 9.
Jeanna Thomas at SBNation looks at how the Vikings offense can get back on track without Norv Turner.
Eric takes a brief look at Vikings/Lions history.
Ted posted As the Offense Turners....I Mean Shurmurs.
Chris tells us who Pat Shurmur is.
Chris didn't bother with voting for a game ball this week, but he did give it away to the one lonely deserving recipient!
CCNorseman gives 10 Reasons to Doubt the Vikings.
Vikings news from other sources:
Fox Sports thinkgs our offense will look better under Shurmur.
Reusse he Strib thinks the Vikings pushed Turner out in favor of Shurmur. It's Reusse, so grain of salt.
From ESPN, Alex Boone, Eric Kendricks, and Tom Johnson are all dealing with concussions for the Vikings.
From Vikings.com:
Coach Zimmer spoke with the media yesterday, Sam Bradford also addressed the media.
Lindsey Young shows how the connection between Shurmur and Sam Bradford could help the transition. Also, the players react to Norv's resignation.
Schein at NFL.com says Zimmer's leadership is one of the biggest statements of 2016.
Here is the official statement from the Minnesota Vikings.
Around the rest of the NFL:
The expectation is that Roethlisberger will play vs. the Ravens, per NFL.com.
NFL.com has their midseason all-pro team up. Here's the defense, and here's the offense.
Other sports news of note:
It was a great game 7 last night, going into extra innings. The Cubs had a commanding lead, but the Indians battled back. The Cubs came through with 2 in the 10th and the Indians could only muster one in the bottom frame, Cubs win 8-7, and are your World Series champs for the first time since 1908.
We come to today's media selection. Thanks to angryguy77 for the suggestion.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could potentially get someone fired or in serious trouble at their place of employment
-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it's sarcasm
-This isn't a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
With that, the beer light is down and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don't forget to tip your waitress, & try the blood sausage.
