The year, and our favorite team’s football season, is nearing an end

Happy Tuesday, everyone.

Well, I won’t lament much on that game. Our offense played pretty well, other than the O line, and our defense......well, yeah. Lots to talk about today with the DB fiasco (which may or may not have been blown out of proportion), and we do have our upcoming match-up with the Bears to discuss.

As for me, I’m at home since the roads in Bismarck are still clogged with snow and stuck vehicles. We had a pretty nasty blizzard here, and we’re still digging out. I hope you all had a great Christmas & were able to spend time with family and friends & enjoy the true meaning of the day.

This is just from Sunday’s snow.

I, along with my wife, 2 life-long friends, and their families, will be heading to the cities on Friday to take in the New Year and the Vikings-Bears game. Despite this season, we’ll be cheering like it’s the Super Bowl, and I know we won’t be the only ones. It’s been a disappointing outcome to the season, but I still feel the future of this team is bright. We have a great head coach, our QBOTF is coming back at some point, we have a very good QB to take his place until he does come back, we have an elite defense, and some very talented players on both sides of the ball that we can build around. We have some work to do, especially on O line, but we still have the makings of a winner. SKOL!!!!

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Adam Thielen put together a historic performance.

Ted posted the Stock Market Report: Packers.

Chris asked “So Now What?”.

Chris shared a couple stories about the DB fiasco. Here’s the initial report that the DBs defied Zimmer. Then a later report that Rhodes deferred to Newman. Honestly, I have no clue where the truth lies, listen to Zimmer’s press conference below to hear his side. What a mess this season has become, although this situation may be much to do with the media trying to create more than what is there.

Chris looks at Diggs, Thielen, and the race to 1,000.

Vikings news from other sources:

From ESPN, the DBs call Saturday’s incident a misunderstanding.

From Vikings.com:

Take an early look at the Bears vs. Vikings.

Coach Zimmer addressed the media yesterday.

Terence Newman also talked with the media.

Captain Munnerlyn says things got blown out of proportion. I don’t doubt that one bit.

Around the NFL:

NFL.com has all your week 16 scores.

From NFL.com, there were a couple of heartbreaking injuries for teams in the hunt. Derek Carr is scheduled to have surgery on his broken fibula today. Marcus Mariota is scheduled to have surgery for the same injury tomorrow.

From ESPN, the Jets’ Petty will also need surgery, and has been put on IR.

Other sports news of note:

The Wild are on an absolute tear, as they racked up their 10th win in a row with a 7-4 stomping of the Rangers on Friday.

We come to today’s media selection.

Wow, it’s been a bad year for celebrity/performer deaths, and there was another on Christmas day as George Michael passed away at the age of 53. Here’s a playlist of some of his music. I never got into his stuff, but many did, so here you go.

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could potentially get someone fired or in serious trouble at their place of employment
-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it's sarcasm
-This isn't a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don't forget to tip your waitress, & try the hog maws.
