U.S. Bank Stadium To Open With Soccer Match

There have been a couple of events that have been announced for the new U.S. Bank Stadium when it opens this summer, but they have both been in the music realm, as there will be concerts by both country singer Luke Bryan and heavy metal band Metallica on the 19th and 20th of August, respectively.

Now, we have word of an actual sporting event that will be taking place at the new home of the Minnesota Vikings, and it will be happening well before either of those shows take place.

The first sporting event at U.S. Bank Stadium will be a soccer match between English Premier League side Chelsea and Italian soccer club AC Slater Milan.

Now, I don't know a heck of a lot about soccer. . .or, yes, football, for our European audience. . .but I can tell you that Chelsea is the defending Premier League champions, although they've fallen on harder times this season. They currently reside in tenth place in the EPL. AC Milan is currently in sixth place in Serie A, the biggest soccer league in Italy.

The game will take place on 3 August, and is a part of the International Champions Cup tournament. Tickets will officially go on sale on Tuesday, 5 April at 10 AM Central time with a pre-sale, while the general public will be able to purchase tickets a week after on 12 April. In order to get in on the pre-sale, you can register at the International Champions Cup web site.

So, are any of you out there interested in taking in another brand of football while you're waiting for the Vikings' season to start?
