Merry Monday, everyone! I had a great weekend, I hope you did too. The wind was insane, so I got zero fishing done, but I got a ton of yard projects checked off the list. We also celebrated my uncle's 95th birthday party (still going strong, it must be something in the whisky).
Around the DN since our last open thread:
The world said goodbye to the greatest.
The Vikings 2016 training camp could get cut short.
John Sullivan has slimmed down for his 2016 comeback.
A judge will rule on the sign dispute between Wells Fargo and the team by June 24.
Matt Kalil is feeling good entering this season. Judging by comments over the past few months, fans aren't feeling so good about Kalil. I hope he proves us wrong. Him getting to even league average would be a massive contribution to arguably the most important position on the O line.
Chris posted a thread where you can submit your idea for the unofficial nickname for U.S. Bank Stadium.
Rhett Ellison expects to be ready for training camp, as in, this year's training camp. I'd be shocked and utterly impressed if he's able to accomplish that.
Vikings news from elsewhere:
From Vikings.com:
The Vikings announce report date and night practice details for training camp.
Laquon Treadwell is showing off his work ethic and toughness. I've been high on this kid (as most of you know), and watching him work & compete tells me I've been right about him.
A certificate of occupancy for U.S. Bank Stadium was awarded. That's a good thing, it wouldn't be very good if people weren't allowed in the building.
Some cool news about the 11th annual Vikings playground build from Lindsey Young.
Laquon Treadwell was wired for sound & wore a helmet cam in OTAs.
They have a synopsis of the best of OTAs 4-6.
Souhan at the Strib is impressed with Rick & Co.'s free agent approach & selection.
From ESPN, Matt Kalil said his knees are pain-free heading into the season.
Around the NFL:
From NFL.com, Aqib Talib was hospitalized after being shot in the leg in Dallas. Just a thought, but if you're making millions, why not hang out in the parts of town where you probably won't get shot?
Here's a shocker, NFL.com is saying that all signs are pointing to a rebound season for the Cowboys. In the last couple decades, I honestly don't recall a season where the talking heads looked at the Cowboys in the pre-season & didn't predict great things from them.
Clay Matthews is moving back to his 'most natural position', per NFL.com.
Twins update:
Sigh, looks like I picked the wrong weekend to stop drinking. Despite a nice effort by Nolasco, the Twins fell to the Rays on Friday 2-4. Santana was roughed up a little on Saturday, and the Twins couldn't pick him up, they lost to the Rays again, 4-7. Ugh, Jepsen. Yesterday, the Twins' bats actually showed up a bit, as they put 5 runs on the board, however, 5 is less than 7, and that's what the Rays scored, so the notch went in the "L" column once more. The Twins had tied the game up in the 8th, but then Jepsen happened........again.
Freezer watch: The Twins are on top of the Braves by technicality. They share the same record, but the Twins had the most recent lead, so they stay on top on our freezer. At least they're ahead in something.
With that, we come to today's media selection. Thanks to usedrobotsalesman for the suggestion/request. Here's something I'd have never listened to if it weren't brought up. Keep 'em coming, I never know what to play here, and there's only so many drunk people videos out there.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could potentially get someone fired or in serious trouble at their place of employment
-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it's sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don't forget to tip your waitress, & try the chitlins.
