We're still a few months away from any sort of meaningful NFL action, but we've gotten another look at what a major sportsbook thinks of the Minnesota Vikings' chances of returning to the post-season in 2016.
Bovada has released their 2016 NFL playoff odds, and according to them there are only three NFC teams that have better odds of making the post-season than the purple.
A bet of "Yes" to the question "Will the Minnesota Vikings make the 2016 NFL Playoffs" at Bovada currently has a line of -200 on it, meaning that you would have to bet $200 in order to make $100. If you wanted to do something really crazy and bet "no," that currently has a line of +160, which means you'd have to bet $100 in order to make $160.
The teams with better chances of making the playoffs than the Vikings do, according to Bovada, are the Green Bay Packers (-500), the Seattle Seahawks (also -500), and the Carolina Panthers (-450). One other NFC team, the Arizona Cardinals, currently has the same -200 line as the Vikings have.
The teams with the longest odds to make the playoffs this season are the Cleveland Browns in the AFC (+600) and the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC (+750).
The Vikings are attempting to make the post-season for consecutive years for the first time since. . .prepare to be depressed. . .2008 and 2009. Barring a rash of injuries, I'm really not sure how they miss the playoffs in 2016, and it looks like the book makers out there agree with me.
