Join The Daily Norseman’s 2016 NFL Survival Pool

Earlier on today, we let you know how you could join in our 2016 NFL Pick ‘Em pool. We have another pool that we do every year that we’re going to get fired up here, and it has a bit of a different take on things.

Yes, it’s time again for our NFL Survival Pool for 2016. For those of you that have never done a Survival pool, here’s how it works.

Every week, you select one NFL team that you think is a dead-sure lock to win in that week. If the team you selected doesn’t win, then you failed to survive and are therefore out of the pool for the season. If your selected team wins, you get to move on to the next week, but you can’t pick that team again for the rest of the season.

For example, if you think that the Minnesota Vikings are a sure thing in Week 1 of the 2016 NFL season against the Tennessee Titans, you could choose the Vikings in the Survival pool for Week 1. If the Vikings beat the Titans in Week 1, you would get to move on to Week 2, and you wouldn’t be able to pick the Vikings again for the rest of the season. If the Titans were to emerge victorious, you’d be out of the pool.

Also, if you fail to make a pick for a particular week, you will be eliminated. The deadline for each week will be at the start of the Sunday noon games for a particular week.

So, how can you join us? Here’s how it works.

1. Go to the Yahoo! Sports Survival Football page.
2. Click on the button that says “Join a Group.”
3. On the right-hand side of the page, you will see the “Join a Private Group” section. You will need the group number (4490) and the group password (Sk0lVikings!), so put those in and click the “Join Group” button. For the password, both the S and the V are capitalized, that’s a zero where the O would usually go, and there is an exclamation point at the end.
4. You will then have to name your pick set and set the other parameters related to your picks.

And that’s it! You’re officially into the Survival pool!

The Survival pool is a lot harder than most people think. . .I’m generally lucky if I make it to Week 3 or so. However, we have had one of our readers complete a full season of Survival football without a loss, so it can be done.

Again, I believe that Yahoo! limits participation in these pools to 100 people. If you attempt to join us and find that you can’t, you can feel free to start another group, and we’ll even promote it so that your fellow DN members can jump in as well.
