Like every other team in the National Football League, the Minnesota Vikings have to have their active roster down to 75 players by 3 PM Central time today. The team announced eight releases yesterday, and have just announced a ninth one. Ted reported several of these yesterday, but we'll put them all in one place here for you on the first of two cutdown deadline days.
Here is the full list of players that the Vikings have released so far:
DE Theiren Cockran
OT Sean Hickey
TE Brian Leonhardt
DT Claudell Louis
WR Marken Michel
LB Terrance Plummer
OL Austin Shepherd
WR Terrell Sinkfield
QB Brad Sorensen
The team was at 89 players after the release of cornerback Melvin White earlier last week. With these nine players being released, the team has to cut five more before the 3 PM Central deadline. Will center John Sullivan be one of those players, as some unconfirmed reports suggest? We'll have to wait and see.
We will update this post with the names of any other Vikings' players that get released today.
EDIT: You know, not that anyone cares right now, but we do have some more transactions from the Vikings after all.
The team did release center John Sullivan, as was speculated earlier in the day.
The Vikings also released safety Antone Exum, Jr. and defensive tackle Scott Crichton with injury designations. If they go unclaimed by the other NFL teams, they will revert to the injured reserve list.
Minnesota also released receiver/kick returner Troy Stoudermire.
Offensive lineman Mike Harris has been placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.
Mike Zimmer is scheduled to have a press conference at 4 PM Central time. We will have more updates with that.
