This offseason, the Minnesota Vikings brought in veteran safety Michael Griffin to compete for the starting spot next to Harrison Smith in the defensive backfield. Today, when the final cuts are being made, it doesn’t appear as though he’s going to be staying around.
Griffin just tweeted this a few moments ago.
Just want to thank the vikings organization for the opportunity and want to wish them the best… https://t.co/KkwykKC1sV— Michael Griffin (@MikeGriff33) September 3, 2016
Griffin had spent his career with the Tennessee Titans prior to joining up with the Vikings. He was one of the oldest players on the roster this offseason, and the Vikings got some pretty good training camp performances from a couple of their young safeties, notably seventh-round pick Jayron Kearse.
As Griffin is a veteran player with more than four years of NFL experience, he will not be subject to the waiver process and can sign with any team right away.
