Minnesota Vikings Waive QB Joel Stave

With the acquisition of Sam Bradford, the Vikings no longer have a need for Stave’s services

At the start of the day today, it appears that quarterback Joel Stave had a pretty good shot at making the Minnesota Vikings’ roster. However, there was a slight change of circumstances right around noon Central time, and now it doesn’t appear that’s going to be the case.

The Vikings are going to waive Stave, according to Darren Wolfson of KSTP in Minneapolis.

Stave served as the #3 quarterback for the Vikings for most of the preseason, behind Teddy Bridgewater and Shaun Hill. He got the start in the preseason finale, but wound up exiting the game with an injured hand and a possible concussion. Now, with the acquisition of Sam Bradford, it appears that the Vikings will be rolling with two quarterbacks in Hill and Bradford, while Taylor Heinicke sits on the Non-Football Injury list.

It sounds like Stave might be a candidate for the practice squad, but we won’t know for sure until Sunday.
