Everson Griffen not seriously injured on final play

Cameras showed him on the ground as time expired

NFL: International Series-Minnesota Vikings Practice Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The good news is that, on Sunday afternoon, Minnesota Vikings’ defensive end Everson Griffen recorded a quarterback sack in his eighth consecutive game, giving him ten takedowns on the year.

The better news is that it doesn’t appear that the man they call “Sack Daddy” was seriously injured on the Browns’ final offensive series with time winding down.

As the NFL Network broadcast ended on Sunday, the cameras showed Griffen sitting on the ground, taking his shoe and sock off, as though he had suffered some sort of an injury. But, as you can see from the report from KFAN-FM in Minneapolis, Griffen wound up getting up and walking off the field under his own power.

Griffen is on the short list of candidates for this year’s Defensive Player of the Year Award, and any sort of injury would potentially be a huge blow for Minnesota’s defense. But, it doesn’t appear that Griffen suffered anything serious, and will have the bye week coming up to ensure that whatever happened. . .as minor as it appears to be. . .doesn’t potentially get any worse.
