We all know the feel good story of Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Adam Thielen. Thielen is the first Vikings’ receiver in nearly a decade to go over 1,000 receiving yards in a season, and has quickly established himself among the NFL’s elite at the position.
Many have wondered how a receiver like Thielen continues to get so wide open on a regular basis, and another one of our SB Nation film gurus has a breakdown of exactly what’s making Thielen such a great receiver.
Samuel Gold, who writes for Field Gulls (SB Nation’s home for the Seattle Seahawks) did a pretty extensive breakdown of how Thielen has gotten to where he is now. The focus is largely on Thielen’s route running, which has been outstanding and is the primary reason that he always seems to be open.
It’s nice to have someone, particularly someone that isn’t a Vikings’ fan, take a look at one of our players and break down what makes him so good. If you have a few minutes, take some time to watch Thielen at work. I guarantee that you’ll gain a bigger understanding of what makes him one of the NFL’s best at the wide receiver position.
