Saturday NFL and College Football Open Thread

There’s a lot of football action taking place today, with Saturday NFL and the start of bowl season

It’s Saturday, but there’s a lot of football action on the table today for anyone that’s interested in watching.

For the next couple of weeks, we are going to have Saturday NFL action. Of course, we already knew that, because the Minnesota Vikings will be playing next Saturday. But, today gives us a couple of divisional matchups with potential playoff implications.

First, at 3:30 PM Central time, we’ll be getting an NFC North matchup, as the Chicago Bears will travel to take on the Detroit Lions. A loss for Detroit would officially eliminate them from NFC North title consideration and would put a serious dent in their playoff hopes.

Following that, at approximately 7:30 PM Central, we’ll have an AFC West matchup, as the Kansas City Chiefs host the San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs looked like they were going to run away with the division early on with a 5-0 start, while the Chargers stumbled out of the gate at 0-4. However, now both teams sit at 7-6, and this game will go a long way to deciding the AFC West champions going into the final two games of the season.

Both of the NFL games will be on the NFL Network, and I’m sure they’ll be on local networks in the Detroit, Chicago, Kansas City, and San Diego areas.

If you’re not that interested in the pro games today, it’s also the start of college football bowl season. Here is a full listing of today’s games, including those that are already in progress.

  • Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl: North Carolina A&T vs Grambling State (game already going on ABC)
  • R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: Troy vs North Texas (game already going on ESPN)
  • AutoNation Cure Bowl: Western Kentucky vs Georgia State (kickoff at 1:30 PM Central on CBS Sports Network)
  • Las Vegas Bowl: Oregon vs (25) Boise State (kickoff at 2:30 PM Central on ABC)
  • GILDAN New Mexico Bowl: Marshall vs Colorado State (kickoff at 3:30 PM Central on ESPN)
  • Raycom Media Camellia Bowl: Middle Tennessee vs Arkansas State (kickoff at 7:00 PM Central on ESPN)

So, if you’re going to be hanging out watching football anyway, feel free to hang out here and talk about it with your fellow Vikings’ fans!
