Merry Thirsty Thorsday, everyone!
As you likely know, today is the day that America was attacked at Pearl Harbor in 1941. Over 2,000 soldiers lost their lives that day, and the attack pushed the country to officially enter World War II where many more would fight, and many more would fall, as they fought for this country and for the world from an evil they didn’t fully comprehend until later. We should never forget those who served, fought, and those who have given their lives in service to this country. It’s easy to take our freedom for granted, but without these brave folks, we would not have it. Be thankful, everyone.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Wludford presents part I of How the Vikings Play Defense.
Saxyprince posted Purple FTW! Podcast: Vikes Wars: The Force Awakens feat. Yinka Ayinde (ep. 471). That’s a sizable title.
Chris tells us to appreciate Pat Shurmur while he’s here, because he may be gone soon. This would upset me, I hope someone on his staff is taking notes.
Ted dishes some reality about the team’s recent past, and some sound advice for fans, as he brings us to the part where we jump in with both feet.
Vikings news from other sources:
Andrew Krammer at the Strib points out that the Vikings run game isn’t just better, it’s historically better.
Captain Munnerlyn says he ‘left millions on the table’ to return to Carolina instead of staying in Minnesota, per the Pioneer Press. After seeing Alexander blossom, I’d say it worked out fine for both sides. I like Munnerlyn & appreciate his work here, so all the best to him in the rest of his career (except for Sunday & any other time he plays the Vikes).
From Vikings.com, you can see Coach Zimmer’s press conference from yesterday, also see Keenum’s media address, and there’s lots more to sift through in the media vault.
News from around the rest of the NFL:
The NFL has extended Roger Goodell’s contract, per NFL.com. Notice that they first had to use threats and intimidation to shut down anyone who may have disagreed with the decision before this happened, but I’m sure that there is no correlation there. Nah, none at all.
At CBS Sports, they say Jon Gruden may be interested in the Giants coaching job. Nothing substantial here, but I would like to see Gruden coach again, so I shared it anyway.
We come to today’s media selection.
Trying to think of a song for Everson Griffen against Matt Kalil, and I immediately thought of Crush ‘Em by Megadeth. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn't a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it's sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don't forget to tip your waitress, & try the tiger meat.
