Report: Darrell Hazell To Be Vikings Wide Receivers Coach

Following the departure of George Stewart to the San Diego Los Angeles Chargers to be their new special teams coordinator, the Minnesota Vikings found themselves in need of a wide receivers coach, and they have reportedly found one.

Numerous sources are reporting that Darrell Hazell will be named the team’s wide receivers coach.

Hazell’s most recent job was as the head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers, who fired him after a pretty awful stretch. In three-plus seasons under Hazell, the Boilermakers were just 9-33, and only won three out of 27 contests in the B1G before Purdue relieved him of his duties in mid-October. Before that, he was the head coach at Kent State for two seasons, leading the Golden Flashes to a 11-3 record in 2012 and their first bowl appearance in forty years.

Prior to becoming a head coach, Hazell was the wide receivers coach at several colleges, including Eastern Illinois, Western Michigan, Rutgers, and THE. . .dramatic pause. . .Ohio State University. He was the wide receivers coach for the Buckeyes under Jim Tressel from 2004 to 2010, leaving to take the Kent State job in 2011.

The Vikings’ wide receiver coaching job will be Hazell’s first at the NFL level.
