If you have children that are into football, you have an opportunity to send them to a camp to learn from one of the best.
Yes, Minnesota Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer is putting on his first (to my knowledge, at least as Vikings’ coach) football camp, which will take place at Winter Park on 20 May. The sign-ups actually got underway at 8:00 AM Central time, but according to the Mike Zimmer Foundation FaceBook page, they’re having some issues with the sign-up form, so you can call in to (888) 389-2267. I’m certain that the website will be up again before too long, though. . .the page says they’re rebooting the server.
The camp is open to boys and girls. . .yes, boys and girls. . .from Grades 1 through 8. According to the information post on the Zimmer Foundation FaceBook page:
Coach Zimmer and our camp coaches will offer tips and hands-on instruction alongside several current Minnesota players, including lectures, fundamental football skills stations, contests, and non-contact games in a high-energy, fun, and positive environment. Campers will be placed in small groups by age to ensure that each child gets maximum instruction.
In addition to football instruction, our staff will cover health and nutrition, including how important it is to take care of your body and the critical role it plays in sports. We hope to promote a healthy and active way of living.
The comprehensive camp experience is great for athletes of all skill levels, whether they are new to the game or have been playing for years. Individual and team awards will be given in each age group.
Each attendee will receive:
-a souvenir autograph from Mike Zimmer (item provided – outside items not permitted)
-a camp team photo with Mike Zimmer
-a limited-edition Mike Zimmer Foundation Football ProCamp t-shirt
So, if you have kids that would like to take a day and hang out with Mike Zimmer, (presumably) some Vikings’ players and coaches and learn a lot about football, get them signed up. . .I’m sure the spots are going to go quickly.
