You really can gamble on just about anything these days.
Within hours of the news that the Minnesota Vikings would be declining the option on the contract of running back Adrian Peterson, there were already odds out there that listed the teams that were favored to be his next destination. These odds come courtesy of the folks at Bovada.
Right now, the early favorite to sign Peterson is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who Bovada has listed at 3-to-1 odds. The Vikings are one of three teams that are currently listed at 5-to-1, along with the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs (who announced that they were releasing their all-time leading rusher, Jamaal Charles, today).
Following that group are the Carolina Panthers at 7-to-1 and the New England Patriots at 8-to-1. Next are the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins, both of whom Bovada has at 10-to-1. The Oakland Raiders check in at 12-to-1, the Seattle Seahawks at 14-to-1, and the Philadelphia Eagles round things out as a 20-to-1 longshot to bring in Adrian Peterson.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the early stages of free agency. Rick Spielman certainly didn’t sound as though he was closing the door on a potential Peterson return, and Peterson may be more amenable to returning to Minnesota once he sees what’s available to him on the open market.
But, if you’re wondering who the sharps have as a potential favorite to land the soon-to-be free agent, that’s the most comprehensive list we have thus far.
