The off season is a long slog of free-agent evaluations, mock drafts, draft excitement, and then waiting for training camp to begin. Football fans scour social media looking for football and football-related news to keep some of the boredom at bay. That’s when I discovered this guy—Preston.
Preston’s story resonated with me because, like my niece Ellie, he lives with kidney disease and spends a lot of time at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. So, in solidarity for a fellow kidney kid, I follow Preston on Twitter (@PrestonsPosse).
Yesterday, I saw @VikingsNation had posted this on Twitter:
This hardcore Minnesota sports fan’s birthday wish is to receive birthday mail. I knew the Minnesota Vikings fans here at DN are the kind of warm hearted people who could come through for Preston to make his 14th birthday special.
According to Preston’s Facebook page, as of last night he had received more than 100 letters and packages. With the crowd here on DN, I bet we could double that number.
Please take the time to send birthday wishes to our fellow Vikings (and Wild, and Twins) fan, Preston to help give him a very happy 14th birthday.
Mail your cards, letters, or packages to:
Preston Tienter
P.O. Box 9293
St. Paul, MN 55109
And, if you want to take a picture of your card for Preston and post it in the comments below, that would be great. Together we can make Preston’s birthday wish come true with letters from around Minnesota, the United States, and the world.
